Good morning and welcome to Worship
I am the Rev. Robert Buchan. For whatever reason you have found yourself here with us today, it is important to remember that we are children of God and brothers and sisters to one another. And so all are welcome here today.
We come to worship as different people, a gift to each other from God. We come as we are, because it is God who invites us.
We come as important parts of the body of Christ in this place.
Psalm 119:97-112 & Romans 8:1-11 (NIV)
Our lectionary readings today talk of an interventionist God who breaks into our lives, and puts a new heart into us, so we will follow his ways, rather than the ways of the world.
Psalm 119 terms it as ‘living by God’s law or ordinances. Romans couches it as living by the Spirit rather than by the flesh.
Often God’s breaking in is not through wonderful supernatural events but breaking in through his natural created beings – through us.
The Psalmist of 3000 years ago recognises this as does the Apostle Paul nearly 2000 years ago. But so do we, as we see the Spirit that has been put upon people to break into the lives of those who are in need of physical, emotional and spiritual healing.
Please join with me in welcoming Mary here today.
